Now it’s time to do the fun part – color your beautiful designs! We actually took probably two hours just because we were having so much fun and wanted to do a variety of designs and accessories. Colored pencils and permanent markers (such as Sharpies) are the best for drawing and coloring Shrinky Dink designs. If that happens, press it flat with a spatula while it’s still hot.

Release the chopstick and if your piece at the top needs flattening, use a small spatial to flatten it. Cut out the flat part of your clamshell packaging and draw cute heart shapes on them. If they struggle to flatten after you take them out of the oven, place them under a plate for a few seconds.

• I decided that keychains are the perfect back to school craft so that’s what I did!
• Immediately after taking out of the oven, I press a metal or porcelain bowl with a flat bottom on top of them.
• I even had to trick it by taping the shrink film to a regular sheet of paper to get it to move through the printer correctly.
• My kids gave their keychains to their Nanny (yes, I know I’ve been talking about what a great Father’s Day gift this is haha).

Shrinky Dink Bookmarks

Keep the leaves simple – little oval shapes on either side of the stem look perfect. From animal print to floral and beaded bobby pins, you can create shrinky dink bobby pins in various designs and patterns. Free Printable Winter Shrinky Dink Patterns Kids Will Love

Remove from the oven when Shrinky Dink plastic has been laying flat for 30 seconds. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place your designs on top. Use colored pencils on the rough side of the film. Line up the shrink film over your template and tape it down so it does not move. We found the best temperature to cook plastic shrink film is 325°F for 1-3 minutes.

Gluing magnets or push pins to the back of your Shrinky Dink photo creates a fun way to decorate your refrigerator or corkboard.

If you need to lighten an image, do so with photo editing software before uploading it to Design Space as you cannot make the necessary color changes in Design Space. If it is not, the image will be too dark to see when the plastic shrinks to its final size. Remember that holes shrink in size as the material bakes, so do not use a starting hole any smaller than .25” or you will likely not be able to use it! Now that the image is the correct size, we can customize the sunflower keychain by adding an initial! Enter a “5” into the width box to resize the image. To add the image of the sunflower to your canvas, select the image in the preview area, then select "Add to Canvas."

Using Our Free Template

For this tutorial, you’ll need a shrink film, an inkjet printer, jump rings, and key rings. The fun part is that you do not have to be a master artist to make really adorable crafts using shrink film. For Key Chains and Lobster Chains just loop the desired designs into the hole.
